Clean & Green Singapore Song-writing Contest Campaign

    Insight
This campaign was part of National Environmental Agency’s (NEA) broader plan of creating a Clean & Green Singapore. The goal was to encourage song-writers to write a song about a cleaner greener world, so as to inspire others and spread an “eco” message.
The objective was to reach out to both professional songwriters as well as youths to encourage them to participate in the contest.

    Ideas
Carbon was engaged as NEA’s creative and marketing partner to execute the entire campaign from start to finish. This included working alongside the client to spread the message through traditional and online media, direct marketing to music schools, forging partnerships with institutions, managing social media campaigns and so on! Much effort was also put into the creative treatment for the campaign. A youthful, vibrant, grungy vibe was used in all creative collaterals to attract the attention of the primary target audience – youths.

Aside from just print and on air advertising, focus was also directed towards digital avenues such as a series of viral videos on the internet and a strong Facebook initiative.

    Impact
This was a great project for us to work on and we thoroughly enjoyed the process and working relationship with our client. Initial responses to this campaign has been really great. We also had a lot of fun in the middle of Orchard Road on a Saturday when we readied the viral part of the campaign, doing our part for a cleaner, greener world! We are excited to see more entries so keep your creative juices flowing and start sending in your entries! Check us out on the Facebook page.

Carbon Group Retreat – The Expo Expedition!

Each year the entire carbon group takes a couple of days off to get out of the studio for much needed R&R (Rest and Re-Inspiration). This year, we took a two-day trip to the World Expo held in Shanghai to check out what the various countries have on offer.

There were a total of 190 countries and more than 50 organisations represented at the World Expo, with even more visitors on the ground – at least a minimum 20,000 each day! Of interest to us was how each country and organisation managed to interpret the theme of “Better City, Better Life” in their own unique ways. Each country and organisation built their own pavilions to represent their visions of a better future. It goes to show that you should never limit how you look at something, there’s always a hundred more ways to view it! Now that’s true creativity!

Check out this little montage to get a taste of what we saw at the Expo. Enjoy!

Our Sharing This Week: SEO – the way to go!

At Carbon, we believe in continuous learning and enjoy sharing our knowledge and expertise. Every week we gather to share and learn from one another in our weekly team sharing sessions. And because we love sharing, we decided to post some of the things we’ve learnt on our blog!  This week’s topic – SEO!

    How Search Works

Search Engine Optimization, or “SEO” for short, is the process of improving both the volume and quality of visitors to a web site from search engines, via “natural” or “unpaid” search results. In other words, SEO is the process of increasing the search ranking of your website, by taking steps to help search engines locate it easily.

Before proceeding any further, here’s a short video to explain how a search engine like Google works when we perform searches.

    How Google Search Works

You might ask “why should I do SEO? Aren’t modern search engines smart enough to find my website as long as it is there?”

Our answer is “Yes, search engines today are very advanced and would most likely find your site.” However, the ranking of your website in a search result, will greatly affect how many and what kind of visitors will navigate to your website.

Good search result ranking is important, because most searchers (92.5%) will not explore beyond the third page of search results before trying another search1. So making sure your site is found to be relevant and ranked higher in search results, is important to having it clicked by the people whom you want viewing it.

So how do we increase “natural” or “unpaid” traffic to a websites? This can be done by taking several steps. These include having a relevant title for each page of your website; page titles should provide accurate descriptions of the content being offered. Another way is to ensure that you have tagged your pages to keywords that users will type in a search engine, when looking for the content that you are providing.

It is important to note, SEO is nothing without good content! This is even more true on the web where content is king! The more relevant your content, the more likely search engines will define it as ‘credible’. This will also get you more inbound links to your website, which in turn will improve your search rankings.

So as you can see, there are so many steps that can help you get your website better traffic volume and quality. So many in fact, that one blog post can’t contain everything we have to share!

We’d loved to share more with you. If you’d like to find out more about SEO and how we could help you in optimizing your site, just drop us an email info@carbon.com.sg. We look forward to hearing from you! Cheers!

    MyHawkers.sg

This was one of our dream projects! Being able to craft a site to contribute to the food scene in Singapore. Yummy. Conceptualised jointly with the National Environment Agency, the vision of the site was to allow Singaporeans to find their favourite food stalls easily, rate them and add their comments. The site features include a wiki that allows users to update the store locations and other relevant information. Thus, have no fear no more that your favorite hawker stall has moved and you know not where they have moved to! There is now collective intelligence to hunt these stores down. You are also able to rate your favourite hawker centre in this site. So come visit the site and build this “foodie” community.
